Dolby Atmos®

Dolby Atmos® is a new type of sound technology that produces sound from all directions. Not to be confused with Dolby Surround. In real life, sound comes from all around us. Overhead, to the left, the right, beneath us, behind us, and in front of us, Dolby Atmos® can recreate sound in a way that is so realistic that your ears will never know the difference.

Dolby Atmos® is the first home theater system based not on channels but on audio objects. What is an audio object? Any sound heard in a movie scene, such as a child yelling, a helicopter taking off, or a car horn blaring, is an audio object. Filmmakers using Dolby Atmos® can decide exactly where those sounds should originate and where they move as the scene develops.

Thinking about sound this way eliminates many of the limitations of channel-based audio. In a channel-based system, filmmakers have to consider the speaker setup: Should this sound come from the left rear or left side surrounds? With Dolby Atmos®, filmmakers must believe the story: Where will that yelling child run? The Dolby Atmos® system, whether in the cinema or a home theater, has the intelligence to determine what speakers to use to precisely recreate the child’s movement in the way the filmmakers intend.

Dolby Atmos® is also far more flexible and adaptable than channel-based home theater. In a channel-based system with channel-based content, the number of speakers is predetermined and cannot be changed. With Dolby Atmos®, in contrast, you have tremendous flexibility: you can get the whole experience with just seven speakers or get an even more prosperous, more detailed sound by adding more speakers. 5.1 Surround Sound: Paradigm® CI Elite Series Loudspeakers

A surround sound speaker system is a collection of loudspeakers, voice-matched to deliver a complete music or home theater experience from a single package. A 5.1 channel setup places three speakers in front of you (left, right, center), two speakers behind you (right surround, left surround), and a subwoofer somewhere in the same room (for low-frequency effects).

A subwoofer enhances the frequency range of a speaker system by delivering the lowest bass notes, a frequency area that a typical speaker cannot fully deliver, and gives dynamic impact to the low-frequency effects in movies and music.
